Landon Elmore relocated to San Francisco in January 1989 from
his native homeland of North Carolina, two years after graduating
from the School of Design at North Carolina State University (with
honors). There seemed to be a calling from the west coast, where
he quickly found a job at a design firm in North Beach. Landon
settled into a career designing and producing all manner of printed
materials; the old fashion way - with sharp exacto blades, some
sheets of typesetting and rubylith and some hot wax.
Then,
just as the 1989 earthquake shook San Francisco to the core, we
began to feel the tremors of yet another kind of shake-up; the
PC revolution. So...we learned to use the Macintosh. Soon we "Mac"
users unknowingly put the typesetters out of one business, while
bolstering their transformation into another - the "Service
Bureau". We instead produced wonderful print pieces by giving
the printer a computer disc rather than a "mechanical".
This was when "Multimedia Gulch" in SF, as it came to
be called, really began to take off. Companies were now designing
CDROM's and games, and advances in video and audio and 3D modeling
just kept getting better.
Then...enter the Internet. In 1996, we plunged headfirst into
the development of the web; a craze that had us all incredibly
excited. HTML was the undisputed king. New delivery methods for
our clients' messages were being invented daily. Since the beginning,
we of the "Gulch", have ridden the marvelous wave of
21st century technology, and have learned a great deal along the
way.
In
2002, Landon returned to his roots in Raleigh, NC, along with
wife Kirsten and new baby girl, Leila Johanna. Landon continues
to work with West Coast clients, while working with new NC clients
in and around the Research Triangle Park.

If
you have a creative communications project, you need someone who
can help define the project and provide accurate cost estimates,
produce the work and deliver on time and on budget. You need excellent
design skills, and you need the project plan to be smart and well
executed. Whether the project is large or small, that's what we
deliver.
Typical
steps in the development process are as follows:
1.
Project analysis. Client meetings and research as needed
to fully assess the project's objectives, resources, time-frame
as well as editorial, design and technology requirements.
2.
Proposal. Includes editorial, design and technology strategies
and an overall production timeline with milestones, approvals,
and budget details.
3.
Development. With an approved plan in place, content is defined
here, and applied to interface (or other) design studies. We normally
provide different looks in an initial design presentation, then
define a selected direction through a few more reviews towards
sign off.
For
websites the refinement process includes these steps:
a.
Prototype. Proposed interface and architecture in a demonstration
version with limited functionality.
b.
Alpha version of project. Running code without full feature
functionality. Media assets are in place for testing all functional
elements.
c.
Beta version of project. Near-complete project ready for
comprehensive testing and refinement.
d.
Product Launch. Final product.
e.
Ongoing Development and Maintenance. We often design programs
that utilize a phased approach, including continued development
after a particular initial launch of the product. Especially
with website development, as this medium requires ongoing development
to keep the site fresh. We keep this in mind and plan for it
in our development plans.
Everyone
has different needs when it comes to communicating with the world
about their company or product. We love working with our clients
to create compelling content across all media. We'd love to help
you, too! |
